Tastes of Tequesta Tour Stop # 5

3 Natives

The fifth stop on the Tastes of Tequesta Tour was a visit to a unique Village eatery that is as committed to protecting the environment and supporting the local economy as it is to serving fresh, nutrient-packed, and locally-sourced food.  3 Natives, located in the Village Square Shopping Plaza at the SE corner of US 1 and Tequesta Drive, was founded in Tequesta in 2013 and now boasts another six Florida locations.  Village Clerk Lori McWilliams, a faithful patron of 3 Natives, accompanied Mayor Abby Brennan to this stop on the tour.  Known for its selection of Brazilian acai bowls, 3 Natives also serves a wide variety of fresh “super-food” smoothies, like the All Hopped Up, specialty wraps including the Tres Navitos’ Burrito, and innovate protein and vegan salads.  Bagels are served with a variety of toppings including homemade hummas and tuna salad.  Beverages are also made daily onsite and include Seasonal Fruit-Infused Southern Sweet Tea and cold pressed juices and shots. Lori did not have to look at the menu to order The Bird, her favorite acai bowl and a Twisted Ginger shot.  Abby chose the daily special, Avocado Mango Toast served with a cup of white bean and kale soup.  She also enjoyed a berry hibiscus Kombucha sparkling tea.  Son and father team Anthony and Philip Bambino are at the helm of 3 Natives and, in their own words, are staying the course to deliver “Raw Natural Fresh – the way food should be.”

Tastes of Tequesta Tour Stop #4

Food Truck Pow-Wow

Stop # 4 on the Tastes of Tequesta Tour was a bit different, but certainly deserved a visit.  The Village of Tequesta’s Food Truck Pow-Wow has become a favorite night out for folks near and far who want to experience food trucks done “Tequesta style.”  On the first Friday of the month between October and April, Tequesta Parks and Recreation director Greg Corbitt and recreation coordinator Wendy Schmidt corral 12 food trucks at the North Dover Road entrance of Constitution Park.  Crowd favorites like chicken and waffles, lobster rolls and buttermilk fried chicken sandwiches will begin to be prepared.  The one-of-a-kind 6-cheese Mac and Cheese Balls can be found at Miami Press and authentic Vietnamese cuisine will be offered at Spring in Roll Out.  Want something sweet? Dough Dough’s Donuts will make your face light up!  They offer toppings including cinnamon sugar, chocolate, vanilla, caramel and more.  Constitution Park’s centralized location makes it an easy walk or bike ride for many of the folks who will begin to arrive.  And then… the Tequesta magic begins!  With lights twinkling throughout Constitution Park, picnic tables begin to fill up and blankets and camp chairs spring up on the lawn surrounding the gazebo.  Neighbors and friends gather to catch up, enjoy their meals and listen to live music.  The park’s award-winning playground and putt-putt green offer a secure area for youngsters to run about.  A rock climbing wall and bungie jump will often become part of the fun as well.  Adding to the festivities is Lively Lights, where the light-up toys that the kids love can be found. Tequesta’s Food Truck Pow-Wow reflects what makes the Village so special.  It’s smaller, cozier, safer, and friendlier.  If you haven’t had a chance to visit the Food Truck Pow-Wow, make your way to the last one of the season on Friday, April 7th.

Tastes of Tequesta Tour Stop # 3

Corner Café & Brewery

The third stop on Mayor Abby Brennan’s Tastes of Tequesta Tour was a visit to the Corner Café & Brewery.  Located at the SE Corner of US Highway 1 and Tequesta Drive, the Corner Café & Brewery has been a favorite breakfast, lunch, and dinner spot for nearly 14 years. Tequesta resident and NewsChannel 5 Chief Meteorologist Steve Weagle and his wife Karen joined the Mayor for breakfast at the café.  Steve chose a Western Omelet, Karen selected Eggs Benedict and Abby enjoyed the Cinnamon Swirl French Toast. The lunch menu at the Corner Café & Brewery features a wide variety of homemade soups, salads, and sandwiches, including their signature “Jazzed Up BLT.”  An assortment of starters on the dinner menu includes Lobster Macaroni and Cheese and Baked Brie.  Along with creative nightly specials, owner Chef Jim Hill whips up crowd favorites such as Beef Short Ribs and Porcini Mushroom and Truffle Ravioli.  The entire menu can be viewed on their website, www.cornercafetequesta.com. The Corner Café and Brewery also features specialty craft beers from around the world and patrons enjoy live entertainment on Friday and Saturday evenings and “Open Mic” on Tuesday night.  Check out their Facebook page for details. The café also hosts private parties on the second floor and provides catering for both small and large groups. It is no wonder why long-time manager Barry Rosenfield describes the Corner Café and Brewery as a hidden gem tucked away in the heart of Tequesta.

Tastes of Tequesta Tour Stop # 2

McCarthy’s Irish Pub

Mayor Abby Brennan’s next stop on the Tastes of Tequesta Tour was McCarthy’s Irish Pub in the County Line Shopping Plaza.  Known for its authentic Irish cuisine including Shepherd’s pie, Irish stew and chicken pot pie, McCarthy’s also offers a host of Irish brews on tap including Smithwick’s Irish Ale and Guinness Extra Stout.  Former Mayor Pat Watkins and hubby Bill joined Abby for dinner and enjoyed the night’s special crab-encrusted snapper along with homemade scones and broccoli casserole.  Soups, burgers, steaks, and homemade desserts are also on the menu.  McCarthy’s Irish Pub is open weekdays between 11:30 am and 9:00 pm; Saturday between 4:00 pm and 9:00 pm and closed on Sunday.  Happy hour is between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm and on Monday evenings, guests and staff join Irish balladeer Noel Kingston in singing familiar Irish songs.  Owner Brendon McCarthy’s perfectly captures the ambiance at McCarthy’s Irish Pub by saying “there are no strangers here, only friends who haven’t met yet.”
