Proposed Recreation/Community Center

The Village of Tequesta has been gathering resident input on building a new recreation/community center.  Although Council has not voted to move forward with building the new center, the Design Team has put together preliminary information for consideration.

Constitution Park and the recreation programs provided by our Parks and Recreation department are greatly valued by Tequesta residents and are outstanding community assets.  However, many residents have been asking for more.

Needs Assessment
More includes, but is not limited to, expanded programs for children and adults, the capacity to accept more Tequesta children into our summer camps with a greater diversity of activities and a facility that enables offerings for our residents young and senior to occur simultaneously.  Unfortunately, we are unable to provide the additional programs and services our residents have requested due to the limitations of our current recreation building.

Input Received

The Tequesta community's desire and need for a new and robust recreation/community center has been clearly communicated through resident communications with the Parks and Recreation staff and further confirmed through resident completion and submission of 700 surveys.  96% of the resident survey's received to-date, have responded in favor of a new recreation/community center.

Remembrance Park vs. Constitution Park

The North Seabrook property, otherwise known as Remembrance Park, was initially determined to be the best location for the new recreation center.  This decision was made in advance of the work done by the recreation/community center Evaluation Committee, Negotiation Committee and current Design Team.  While there was strong resident support for the new recreation center at Remembrance Park, it became apparent to the Design Team through resident conversations that given a choice most would prefer the recreation center to be located at Constitution Park.  The Design Team has completed the re-evaluation and made a presentation to the Village Council that the proposed recreation/community center be built at Constitution Park thereby creating a "recreation complex" in a single location.

There will be an opportunity for all residents to learn more, ask questions and provide additional input regarding the recreation/community center at two community wide open houses to be held as follows:
  • Wednesday, March 27, 2019 - 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Village Hall in the Council Chambers
  • Saturday, March 30, 2019 - 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Village Hall in the Council Chambers
Additionally, you can view the floor plans and exterior renderings of the center and speak with Parks and Recreation staff at the current Parks and Recreation building during normal business hours, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
