Proposed Recreation/Community Center
Hello Neighbors, this is your Parks & Recreation Director Greg Corbitt:
We are very excited as we enter into the possible replacement of the current Recreation Center located on Seabrook Rd built in 1965. Over the last 18 years, we have managed to put together numerous programs in that building that have served both young and old well over the years. However, we reached a point where the current building has numerous issues and doesn't meet the needs of the Village. Both the young and old need a place/space to Play that fosters types of development and provides a comfortable place for rest, intergenerational engagement and community gathering that the residents can be proud to call their own.
"A Building that we all travel to at some point that is more playful and developmentally rich for many years to come"
Constitution Park and the recreation programs/services/special events provided by our Parks and Recreation department are greatly valued by Tequesta residents and are outstanding community assets. However, with the changing of demographics and Village of Tequesta as one of the most desirable places to live in Palm Beach County, many residents are asking for more. More includes, but is not limited to, expanded programs for children and adults, the capacity to accept more Tequesta children into our summer camps with a greater diversity of activities and a facility that enables offerings for our residents young and old to occur simultaneously.
“Play is an important part of development in all areas, from physical to social to emotional"
The building will be multi-functional that accommodates programs with expanded times and offerings. A building that is environmentally friendly and sustainable. A modern and energy efficient building that welcomes everyone that walks through the door. Rooms that serve for passive recreation like: Adult Education, Senior Health and Wellness, Home Owner Association Meetings, Seminars, Mah-jongg, etc. Room for more active recreation: exercise classes, yoga, tai chi, fencing, etc. A dedicated room that serves our youth/toddlers for Gymnastics, Open Gym, Mommy and Me, Ninja Warrior class with expanded classes and times. A Walking/Running Track for all ages that looks down into the multi/purpose area. Finally, a muti-purpose area that can be used for a multitude of activities: youth tennis, youth soccer, adult/youth basketball and volleyball, JTAA programs, pickle ball, local school physical education classes, Arts and Crafts shows, performances, After-School programs, etc. Most importantly, a muti-purpose area that allows for our Summer Camp to grow with Village Residents and a place for them to Play.
"A building that compliments beautiful Constitution Park"
The main goals are to not only meet the needs of current classes but future classes with proper flooring, walls, lighting, storage and equipment. If someone asks, “what will this new building look like inside?” We should be able to answer with, “it will be warm and inviting and resonate fun, play, exercise and include technology trends.”
The Village Parks & Recreation Department understands the civic value and vital role neighborhood parks and recreation facilities play as the nucleus of any neighborhood.
Your Neighborhood, "A great Place To Play"
