Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area (JILONA)

The  Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is requesting public input  to identify management actions to protect the underlying values identified when Congress designated the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area. The public comment period began on 11/9 and runs through 1/9/2023.

The BLM (Bureau of Land Management) is inviting all stakeholders, partners, and interested individuals to participate in the public meetings for the Draft Florida Resource Management Plan (RMP) Amendment and associated Environmental Assessment (EA) and unsigned FONSI.

The values of the Outstanding Natural Area (ONA) include the historic and cultural aspects of the site, biological resources, opportunity to conduct scientific study and educate the public, opportunity for recreation, and scenic character of the area. The potential action will fully address, through planning, newly relinquished lots of land by the U.S. Coast Guard to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and update existing decisions for the remainder of the site. Management of the property to be relinquished was not fully addressed by previous planning efforts due to the continued operations of the U.S. Coast Guard. The divestiture in these properties and near completion of all implementation actions in the existing plan has spurred the need for new and updated management guidance from the BLM.
