Explorers Post 357
About TPD Explorers Post 357
Law Enforcement Exploring, established in 1975, is a national vocational program providing young adults with hands-on experience in law enforcement. It operates under the Learning for Life initiative, an affiliate of the Boy Scouts of America, offering youth a unique opportunity to explore careers in law enforcement while developing leadership and community service skills.
In September 2024, under the leadership of Chief Gus Medina, the Tequesta Police Department launched Explorers Post 357. This program is guided by a dedicated committee, including Lt. Kurt Blanc, Ofc. John Pruitt, Brittani DaCosta, and Cpl. William Hoysradt, who are committed to mentoring the youth of our community and fostering their growth.
Weekly Meetings
Each week, our Explorers engage in comprehensive training on various law enforcement topics such as ethics, radio operations, criminal law, report writing, conducting investigations, leadership skills, and responsible firearms handling and shooting. Beyond technical knowledge, the program emphasizes the development of crucial qualities like teamwork, integrity, and responsibility.
Through hands-on activities, role-playing scenarios, and direct mentorship from experienced officers, participants gain valuable insights into the daily duties of law enforcement professionals. These meetings also provide opportunities to build strong bonds with peers and officers, fostering a sense of camaraderie and mutual respect.
Even for those who choose a path outside of law enforcement, the skills learned in the program—such as leadership, communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, and shooting—are essential life skills that will carry forward with them in any career or personal endeavor.
Our Impact
Tequesta PD Explorers Post 357 is committed to making a positive difference in both our department and the local community. Our Explorers actively participate in community events, such as National Night Out and the annual Chili Cook-Off, where they provide valuable support to the police department and engage with residents.
In addition to these events, the Explorers volunteer their time with various local organizations, lending their help wherever needed. Through these experiences, they develop important life skills, build lasting relationships, and foster a strong sense of civic responsibility.
